Decomposing to the very end: PCO

PCO (photocatalyst) technology uses a catalyst with light and nano-technology to generate air-purifying substances (OH radicals) that decompose odors, viruses and bacteria. Just as photosynthesis produces oxygen from sunlight, the reaction between light and the catalyst turns harmful substances into water and carbon dioxide that are harmless to the human body. Unlike conventional filter technology that merely traps harmful substances, this technology ultimately decomposes them — leaving no waste and requiring no maintenance cost.

A catalyst is a substance that speeds up a chemical reaction without being consumed or changed. Titanium dioxide is used as the catalyst in the reaction that produces the purifying substances. It is chemically stable and harmless to the human body — it is even added to processed foods such as candy and doughnuts.

The ·OH generated by the photocatalytic reaction has a powerful oxidative decomposition ability, turning bacteria, viruses, odors and mold into water and carbon dioxide. Since hydroxyl radicals are created and disappear within a millionth of a second, they never leave the product — the purification is completed inside, which makes it very safe.

Filtering and decomposing are worlds apart.

Would you rather store harmful substances, or eliminate them completely? Conventional air purifier filters physically trap harmful substances, so they have no effect on bacteria, viruses or odors smaller than the filtering threshold — and if poorly maintained, microorganisms can grow inside the filter and blow dirty air back into the room. The PCO technology of the puripot air sterilizer optically destroys harmful substances instead. It removes bacteria, viruses and odors regardless of their size, is easy to maintain, and incurs no additional running cost.

Blue Light PCO

The shorter the wavelength, the stronger the light. But too much of a good thing can be harmful. Conventional PCO technology used strong ultraviolet (UV) light to easily generate purifying substances — but it reacted with oxygen in the air and produced toxic ozone (O₃). To eliminate every possible side effect and risk, puripot developed its own catalyst recipe and a special nano process so that purifying substances can be generated even with the visible light we encounter every day (460nm Blue Light).
